mg Powder + Diluent → mg/mL Calculator

Calculate concentration (mg/mL) after reconstituting a powder vial to a final volume (mL). Use the final volume stated on the label/monograph.

Tip: commas are allowed (e.g. 1,000).

After reconstitution — use the final volume stated on the label/monograph.

How it works

Powder vials are reconstituted by adding a specified diluent. After dissolving, the vial contains a solution with a concentration in mg/mL.

The key input is the final volume (often written as “reconstitute to X mL”). Use that final total volume (not the diluent volume added) to calculate mg/mL.

Formula

Concentration (mg/mL) = powder (mg) ÷ final volume (mL)

Worked examples

Example 1: 500 mg vial reconstituted to 5 mL final volume. What is the concentration?

mg/mL = 500 ÷ 5 = 100 mg/mL

Answer: 100 mg/mL

Example 2: 1 g (1000 mg) vial reconstituted to 10 mL final volume. What is the concentration?

mg/mL = 1000 ÷ 10 = 100 mg/mL

Answer: 100 mg/mL

Example 3: 250 mg vial reconstituted to 5 mL final volume. What is the concentration?

mg/mL = 250 ÷ 5 = 50 mg/mL

Answer: 50 mg/mL

Clinical safety note

Always use the final volume stated on the product label/monograph (e.g., “reconstitute to 5 mL”), confirm diluent type, and follow local policy. This tool supports checking — it does not replace clinical judgement.
