Ben J. Devine, PharmD, was a clinical pharmacist and pharmacy educator. At the time of the 1974 case-study publication associated with the Devine ideal-body-weight equations, he was described as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Pharmacy at the University of Michigan Medical Center and a staff clinical pharmacist at University Hospital in Ann Arbor. His published work included clinical pharmacy, aminoglycoside therapy and practical drug-dosing problems.

SAGE lists Margaret M. McCarron, MD first and Ben J. Devine second on the 1974 case-study publication (Drug Intelligence & Clinical Pharmacy 8(11):650–655). The equations are commonly known as the Devine IBW equations and later historical review attributes them to Devine; MedMaths preserves McCarron as publication co-author without labelling her a formula creator.
