Murray A. Katz, MD, was a physician and academic whose work included renal physiology, diabetes and electrolyte physiology. In 1973 he published the New England Journal of Medicine paper that described the classic estimate that serum sodium falls by about 1.6 mmol/L for each 100 mg/dL rise in glucose. Johns Hopkins alumni records later described him as a professor of medicine and physiology; he died in 2008.
