What you will learn
- Identify mL/hr as a volumetric infusion rate and distinguish it from medication dose-rate units such as mg/hr.
- Use the specified practice volume and understand that a real volume to be infused (VTBI) must be separately verified.
- Keep the volume and time from one active order / one constant-rate interval together.
- Convert minutes to hours when the answer is required in mL/hr.
- Calculate rate using volume ÷ time in hours and reverse-check with rate × time = volume.
- Calculate accurately before applying an explicitly stated final rounding rule; do not invent a universal pump increment.
- Distinguish pump mL/hr arithmetic from gravity gtt/min, which additionally requires a tubing drop factor.

Why this matters
The arithmetic is usually simple, but pump-rate questions add important judgement: mL/hr is not a medication dose rate, the volume/VTBI and rate are separate values to verify, and values from old or changed orders must not be mixed.
