Dose Range & Maximum Dose Checks

Use a dose range supplied by the exercise or verified reference, confirm the reference basis matches the stated context, calculate the lower and upper limits, apply any separately supplied maximum on its own per-dose or per-day basis, then compare the prescribed dose.

Learning outcomes

What you will learn

  • find the lower and upper limits of a supplied mg/kg/dose range
  • compare a prescribed dose with those calculated limits
  • apply a separately stated per-dose or per-day maximum on the matching basis
  • recognise that MedMaths fictional hyphenated ranges include their stated boundary numbers while real references must be read exactly as written
  • stop when required values are missing, conflicting or would create an inverted range
  • keep frequency, minimum interval and other source instructions separate from the maximum-dose arithmetic

Clinical connection

Why this matters

A weight-based upper calculation can be limited by a separate maximum, but the maximum must be applied on the basis actually supplied — per dose is not per day. A matching daily maximum is applied to the whole-day upper boundary before any divided-dose conversion.

Lesson plan

How the lesson works

  1. 1

    Learn
