Edmund A. Gehan, PhD (1929–2021), was a biostatistician whose career centred on cancer research at the National Cancer Institute, MD Anderson Cancer Center and Georgetown University. He made influential contributions to survival analysis, phase II clinical-trial design and prognostic-factor studies, and later became Professor Emeritus of Biostatistics at Georgetown. In 1970 he co-authored with Stephen L. George a study estimating human body surface area from height and weight.
